Autoestima, narcisismo e dimensões de delinquência juvenil: Que relação?

Resumo


O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a capacidade preditiva dos constructos de autoestima e de narcisismo em duas dimensões da delinquência juvenil: a gravidade de crimes cometidos e a idade de início na atividade criminal. Para tal, recorreu-se a uma amostra de 261 jovens recolhidos em centros tutelares educativos e elaborou-se um modelo de regressão ordinal para a gravidade de crimes e um modelo de regressão linear para a idade de início na atividade criminal. Os resultados evidenciaram que o narcisismo prediz a gravidade dos crimes e, de forma marginalmente significativa, o início da atividade criminal, o que revela a sua preponderância enquanto fator de risco para as duas dimensões de delinquência e sustenta a sua inclusão em programas de intervenção na delinquência. Por outro lado, demonstraram que a autoestima não prediz nem a gravidade dos crimes nem o início da atividade criminal. Estudos futuros devem continuar a explorar o papel da autoestima na predição da delinquência, no sentido de melhor clarificar esta relação.
