Perceived workplace stigma: Psychometric evidence of the C-STIGMA Scale
Abstract
Abstract: This study examined the psychometric properties of the CP-STIGMA-W – Contextual Perceived Stigma Scale (Workplace Version), an instrument designed to assess multiple forms of
perceived stigma in the workplace. The sample comprised 427 Brazilian workers aged 18 to 80 years. Exploratory factor analyses using the WLS method and oblique rotation revealed a six-factor structure: stigma related to religion or regional origin, physical or mental disability, criminal record, gender and sexual orientation, pregnancy and parenthood, and age. Reliability coefficients (Cronbach’s α = .89–.95; McDonald’s ω = .89–.95) indicated excellent internal consistency. Positive correlations with depression, anxiety, and stress (DASS-21) provided evidence of validity based on external variables. The instrument offers theoretical, diagnostic, and applied contributions to understanding and mitigating stigma in occupational contexts.
