Regulação emocional em adolescentes e seus pais: Da psicopatologia ao funcionamento ótimo
Abstract
Nas últimas três décadas, verificou-se uma atenção crescente ao estudo da regulação emocional. A adolescência é uma das fases do ciclo de vida de particular importância para o seu estudo. As alterações experienciadas elicitam novas experiências emocionais e contribuem para uma maior necessidade e capacidade de utilização de estratégias de regulação emocional com eficácia (Steinberg, 2005). Os pais constituem-se como importantes agentes de regulação emocional, contribuindo para a promoção do desenvolvimento de adolescentes (Yap, Allen, & Sheeber, 2007). A regulação emocional tem sido estudada associada à psicopatologia (Silk, Steinberg, & Morris, 2003) e ao funcionamento óptimo (Freire & Tavares, 2011).
Assim, o presente artigo tem como objetivo apresentar fundamentação teórica e empírica para o estudo da regulação emocional na adolescência, na perspetiva da promoção do desenvolvimento positivo. Uma melhor compreensão destes processos poderá ajudar a compreender diferenças individuais ao nível da saúde mental e funcionamento ótimo.
